Creating Homemade Wedding Shower Favors on a Budget

While there is so much to do for a wedding, some may wonder why there’s a need to add yet another occasion to plan for in addition to the wedding and reception. In reality, it’s not required or necessary but it is tradition and plenty of people who get married don’t like to disregard tradition.

If this is the case for you, then a wedding shower is probably in the cards. This means on top of planning for the wedding itself, invitations needs to be made and sent out to guests for a wedding shower. Food needs to be prepared, entertainment and drinks are needed, and finally most guests are accustomed to receiving wedding shower favors, whether homemade or purchased.

Many people find it easy to call the wedding shower a pot luck and simply send email invitations to their friends and family. It’s when it comes time to thinking about party favors where the problems begin.

Plenty of money is already being spent on the main event, so saving as much as possible is a true goal. Consider making your own homemade wedding shower favors! They can be simple and cost effective, allowing you to thank your guests for attending without breaking the bank.

Unique Fans

Using card stock, you can create small hand held fans that look luxurious and can be re-used for years, making the perfect homemade wedding shower favors. First you want to go to the local fabric store and pick up a couple yards of light material in your favorite colors and design.

Next, simply cut a piece of card stock (the color does not matter) into a rectangular shape of 12 inches by 8 inches.

Long ways, fold the paper back and forth into half inch thick sections. Holding the bottom half of the card stock together, fan the top of the stock out until the shape of a hand held fan is the way you want it.

Open the fan back up and cover both sides with the thin, lightweight material you purchased. Hold the material in place with fabric glue and make sure no lumps are left behind as the fabric should be smooth over the entire fan. Once the glue dries, fold the fan back into position and secure the bottom (where the fan is held) with a stylish clip after it’s been stapled. There you have it; a stylish, cheap homemade wedding favor that will have your friends talking for years to come!
