Remember what a Good Night’s Sleep Feels Like with a Memory Mattress

Poor sleep is often caused by a low quality mattress that can leave you tossing and turning for most of the night. Your mattress can also be a culprit in many types of chronic pain, especially discomfort affecting the lower back region. Many people have found a solution to their sleep troubles in a memory mattress that offers the perfect balance between firm support and a cushioned place to lay your head. But what is a memory mattress, and why has this become one of the top sellers for beds today?

The NASA Link Memory foam was originally developed for NASA in the 1970’s and was quickly noticed by the medical community as a potential aid for people in hospitals, nursing homes and wheelchairs that were vulnerable to pressure sores. The advantage to this material was the ability to distribute pressure over a greater area. While the early memory foam mattress did seem to relieve areas of the body around the pressure points, these first cushions did not wear particularly wear and needed replacement too often to be considered cost effective.

Introducing Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Pedic was the first company to manufacture the memory mattress for the consumer market in the latter part of the last century. This company is a subdision of the Swedish foam manufacturer Fagerdala, which purchased the memory foam technology from NASA. However, their early mattresses were primarily designed for the hospital setting, and the medicinal use of the product, along with the high quality, keeps the price on the higher end to this day. However, while Tempur-Pedic was the first manufacturer of the memory mattress, it is certainly not the only one. Today, you can find many companies creating their own version of these mattresses, with a wide range of firmness and quality to choose from.

Finding the Right Mattress for You Not all memory mattresses are created equal; some are made with the highest quality of materials designed to last, while others will simply not provide sufficient support and durability to make them worth the money. It is important to do your homework before purchasing a memory mattress so you know what to look for in a high quality item that will last you a good long time. Fortunately, you have plenty of brands to choose from with many companies jumping on the foam mattress bandwagon, so selecting the right mattress for you will be a reasonable prospect. The right memory mattress can provide better sleep with less pain, making it worth every penny.
