Great First Dates for the Older Dating Scene

It is perfectly natural to feel nervous when you are re-entering the older dating scene after being out of circulation for years. Divorce and death of a spouse are the two obvious reasons why you are now among the senior singles prospects but there may be more. Whether you are a giggly teenager or a mature retiree, you will have some apprehension and nervous butterflies in the stomach when it comes to the first date.

The best piece of advice in the older dating scene is to stick with what you know and enjoy doing whether it is dancing, cooking or antique shopping. When you book a date doing something you love, you are much more likely to be relaxed and open than if you chose something you have never tried before.

Check your Community Calendar

Some of the best times in the older dating playing field stem from local events that are held in the community such as harvest festivals, county fairs and outdoor concerts. Look to your local papers, magazines and city websites for more information about what is happening around the town.

Look to Local Senior Centers

Local senior centers often have plenty of action going on that would be a veritable goldmine of ideas for older dating people. Many senior centers offer leisure or continuing education classes such as card games or cooking that might be fun with a partner. These centers often host dances, nights on the town or even day trips to nearby destination. All of these are great for older dating ideas.

Shopping Excursions

If you are both fans of hunting down bargains, visiting a local trader’s village or flea market might be fun. Older dating excursions could include jaunts to local antique stores, garage sale hopping and even visits to the local farmer’s market for fresh produce and baked goods.

Outdoor Adventures

When the weather is pleasant, take a walk in the park to watch the turning colored leaves or picnic on a blanket under a shade tree. Older dating does not have to be all entertainment as you can readily find some interesting, yet laid back pastimes like picnicking.

Do Something Out of the Ordinary

Choose something you both would not ordinarily do for your first older dating excursion as this could be a great ice breaker and get the conversation and laughs going. Rent a paddleboat at a nearby lake, go boating or even fishing. Shoot off a model rocket or even fly a kite along the beach or nearby park. There are many ideas to consider beyond the ones here that could make that first date a calm, happy one.
