Rules Regarding Air Travel With Pets

Air travel with pets can be safe and easy, as long as you are aware of the rules that apply and abide by them. There are a few regulations that apply here and which will you want to follow if you ever have to board a plane with pets.

Air Travel With Pets

First, pets that are traveling in the cabin of the airplane require a reservation, with the point being that no more than seven pets will be booked on any single flight. Keep in mind that dog show participants should be aware that capacity is sometimes reached and the checked pets will get to come on a first come first served basis.

Another important issue on the topic of air travel with pets is that there are only certain types of pets that are allowed on most airlines. Dogs and cats are generally always fine, but animals other than this may not be, so make sure to check what rules apply here with the particular airline that you are flying with.

Check-in is a very important process when you are traveling with pets. You need to make sure that you have called in ahead of time or otherwise contacted the airline and advised them that you will be bringing pets onboard with you. If the pets are allowed and your reservations are okayed then you must check-in at the ticket counter upon arrival at the airport.

You are going to want to make sure that you allow a bit of extra time for boarding, more than you normally would, because there may be holdups when you are taking pets with you.

Another of the rules on air travel for pets refers to the required fees. There may be certain fees that the airline will charge you on top of your regular fare if you are bringing pets along with you, so again you will want to contact the airline and inquire about this.

There are also rules regarding the number of pets that are allowed on a flight, and typically only one pet kennel per ticketed passenger will be accepted for travel in the cabin. Unless there are specific reasons for why you are trying to bring more aboard, for instance if you are trying to take a group of dogs to a show, the airline may be okay with this.

Traveling with pets does not have to be difficult even though many people assume it is, so just make sure that you are aware of the relevant air travel for pets rules and you should have no problems here.
